6.11 Types Of Meditation

Three types of meditation are accepted in Vedanta : (1) That which is termed as "samaadhaana" in the external methods is meditation. Its identity is : not allowing objects to enter the mind is called meditation. This meditation is a means to purify the mind. (2) That which is termed as "nidhidhyaasana" in the internal methods is meditation. It rejects thought flows about the not-self, and allows thought flows about the self. In reality this is not meditation, this is the desire for meditation. This is extremely close of the realization of the essence. It is meditation-like, but not meditation (3) The third meditation is that of the knower of the essence. "I am the doer-enjoyer" this knowledge should not arise in the mind, desires should not touch the mind, and the reflection of self should shine lustrously in the pure saattvic appearance-identityd (prateetiroopa) mind. This is the meditation of the knowledgeable person. Meditation means the speaking of the supreme self!
