6.1 Ocean Of Worldly Existence (Bhavasaagara)

What is the ocean of worldly existence that you intend to cross? In reality, people begin to believe through hearsay that we are drowning in the ocean of worldly existence, but are actually enjoying it. Think this through.

Shree Shankaraachaara says : Taking oneself to be the doer of sin and merit and the enjoyer of their joy and sorrow - this is wordly existence. I obtained this, I enjoyed this, I need to get this and enjoy this - this type of thinking is worldly existence (samsaara).

Sin-merit, hell-heaven, joy-sorrow and their disconnectedness (in other words, thinking of oneself as a drop in the river) - this is worldly existence.

Shree Vidyaaranya Swami says that the creation of the individual soul is worldly existence. The gamut of me and mine is worldly existence.

If you are truly drowning in the ocean of worldly existence, you cannot escape it through knowledge. The knowledge of the self destroys the delusion of drowning.
